They are a small breed of terrier which means they can over heat easily. Being smaller in size they can break a leg by jumping off a couch or bed. But their small size can make them perfect for city apartments, older people and smaller homes since they do not require much room.
Well bred yorkie terriers should be eager to please owners, relishing in the love, praise and attention received from doing a proper job. Althouhg yorkies can be stubborn making training difficult for some, they are equal deticated (headstrong) in preforming a task asked of them. Train requires consistency unless you want your yoshire terrier puppy to learn bad habits. Their natural intelligence allows them to figure out ways to get around following commands if not consistently trained. It is important to socialize your Yorkie as early as possible, to prevent them from becoming anxious in new places. Socialization also helps your Yorkie understand that not all strangers or other animals are dangerous. Yorkies benefit from crate training (for house training) as it gives them a safe place to go that is similar to a den. This is a good idea if you have lots of visitors and the Yorkie is upset or requires a bit of relaxation.
